Bailout deal fails

Now what?

All I can think at this moment is that after two years in the wilderness, the House Republicans are back.

  1. So the lesson learned after all of this is that it's probably a bad idea to force, by law, financial institutions to loan money to people who have no means of paying it back.

Democrats will not learn this lesson and, in fact, will probably enact policies that will make matters far worse. What will get blamed is free markets and capitalism.

"Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and his top aides took credit for building a winning bailout coalition – hours before the vote failed and stocks tanked."

Wow, that's embarrassing. Kind of like when McCain released an ad on Friday morning stating that he won the debate even though at that point he hadn't yet agreed to show up for it.

  3. anonymous, you're a putz.

If anything, this demonstrates that Nancy either wanted this bill to fail, or she is a completely worthless leader.

I'm going for the latter since she went to members in contested districts and green lighted them to vote "no."

If she'd wanted this bill passed, why did 90+ Dems vote no?

Why did 15 California Dems vote no?

Why didn't Obama ring up Bobby Rush and Jesse J (who both voted "no") to give them some Obama-love?

this whole deal was a scam, and the legislation, while Nancy pushed "bipartisanship" (before and after that embarrassing speech, yesterday) was really designed to fail so that Nancy could use this as a bludgeon against the GOP.

In short, she's leveraging our financial security to gain political points.

How do you feel about your leaders, now?

As for McCain's ad - which is worse? A clumsy accident which really hurts no one but him; or, selling out your country?

Wolf - You're blaming poor people for the fact that banks made bad loans and -- given the plethora of investigations by the FBI and various states' Attorneys General -- all too often falsified loan docs to do so?

    Get real.

I won't hold my breath waiting for you to actually find any section of any Federal statute "forcing" banks to loan money to anyone... because there is no section that makes such a definitive declaration.

    What's next? Blaming black people?

Oh, wait. Republicans did that too, on the House floor for the Congressional Record to actually record for all history.

Yo - What part of McCain claiming he brought House Republicans into the fold do you not understand?

He said he would deliver the votes.

    He failed.

The bill failed in the House as a result.

If y'all weren't so busy blaming the Speaker you'd be busy blaming Jimmy Carter.

Oops, Republicans were doing that too.

Say, if Speaker Pelosi's speech were really so bad, why were GOP House Leaders tell the news media it actually wasn't so bad moments after the vote (and moments after claiming it was so bad)?

Is that like the Republican National Committee's weird ad blaming Obama for the bill's passing, even though it didn't pass, and even though McCain was literally "working the phones" all weekend to try and get it to pass so he could prematurely take credit for it passing...?

You guys need to get your stories straight.

You're just wildly flailing around at this point.
