Sen. Kent Conrad attempting to explain himself out of his Countrywide mortgage mess

Rob Port of the Say Anything Blog has the complete text of the letter Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND), who is pictured on the right, just sent to various North Dakota media outlets. Port calls Conrad's explanation of his suspicious financial deals with disgraced lender Countrywide Financial a "rather self-serving piece of horse puckey."

More:

Perhaps the most interesting thing in Conrad's entire op/ed is the fact that he didn't mention (the mortgage industry) bailout legislation at all. I guess he has no convenient explanation for that.

Odd, but Barack Obama has been silent on this issue since Jim Johnson was compelled to resign from the Cult of Change's vice presidential selection committee last week because of his questionable ties to Countrywide Financial.

Conrad is chairman of the Senate Budget Committee.
