Father's Day, Chicago's South Side

The Marathon Pundit family attended the Chicago White Sox game this afternoon. We had a great time, even though the Sox lost to the Colorado Rockies 5-3.

Mrs. Marathon Pundit took this picture of a father and his two sons, all three of course are White Sox fans, as we walked north on Shields Street after the game ended.

One unusual thing happened in the left field bleachers where we were seated. In the sixth inning, Rockies rightfielder Brad Hawpe homered, and two fans threw the ball back onto the field. (Which if I'm not mistaken, is a practice started by Chicago Cub fans.)

Here's the interesting part--security ejected the fans. This is one of the advantages of the ballpark experience, as opposed to watching games on television, which is what I usually do.

Tossing the fans out of seats that cost $35 each seems a bit extreme. Not that I support the practice of throwing opponents' homers into the outfield--it's moronic. I have a better idea: If you don't want to keep the baseball, give it too a kid--like one of the ones up in the picture.
