We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That's not leadership. That's not going to happen.
That's what Barack Obama said yesterday in front of a massive crowd in Oregon. There is so much wrong with what he said, I could dozens of paragraphs criticizing his comments. But I'll try to be brief.
We had four years of talk like that from the last century's worst president, Jimmy Carter. Will a President Obama appear in a cardigan sweater, sending us the implied message that Americans will have to do with less in the future? Funny, Carter never served a second term, and Ronald Reagan showed the world that malaise was not in the future of the USA.
Up there is Obama's Chicago mansion--a real energy sponge. No solar panels on the roof, Senator? What's with that?
Let's move on to automobiles. In 2006 Obama spoke in Metropolis, Illinois (scroll down one post about my trip to the southern Illinois town) about the evils of gas guzzling vehicles. After he was done speaking, he was driven off in a GMC Envoy--an SUV.
A little more than a year ago, Obama chided the domestic automobile industry for not producing enough energy-efficient cars. Detroit was not happy, and within a few days Mark Phelan of the Detroit Free Press discovered that the Obama family motored around Chicago in a 340-HP V-8 Hemi Chrysler 300C--you guessed it, it's a gas guzzler.
Audacity!
Stung by the criticism, the Obamas purchased a Ford Escape Hybrid.
As far as food, America is an agricultular powerhouse, and is a net-exporter of food products.
Why should we believe what Obama has to say?

Blah blah blah ...
The most important question I have for my esteemed senator:
Cubs or Sox?
(Has anyone asked him that, yet?)
He's a White Sox fan.
