Obama caught lying on McCain's 100 year remark

Well...Just a few minutes I posted the below YouTube video, comes this new one, in which the "new kind of politician," Barack Obama, is caught lying while being interviewed by the Today Show's Meredith Vieira this morning.

Here is a transcript of what was said:

MEREDITH VIEIRA: "Senator, both you and Senator Clinton have said Senator McCain favors 100 more years of war in Iraq. On Sunday in The New York Times, Frank Rich wrote, 'really, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton should be ashamed of themselves for libeling John McCain.' That in fact he never said he wanted a 100 more years of war, he just felt American troops should be a long-term presence, the way they are in Japan and South Korea. So are you willing to admit that you've distorted his statements?"

SEN. OBAMA: "No. That's not accurate, Meredith. We can pull up the quotes on YouTube. What John McCain was saying was, that he was happy to have a potential long-term occupation in Iraq. Happy may be overstating it -- he is willing to have a long-term occupation of Iraq, as long as 100 years, in fact he said 10,000 years, however long it took."

As recently as this last weekend, Obama was pushing the "100 year lie."

"(McCain) wants to continue this war in Iraq maybe for another 100 years." (Fox News Embeds Blog, 4/5/08)

Here are some earlier Obama 100 year fibs:

· Obama: "And when it comes to foreign policy, John McCain says he wants to fight a hundred year war, a hundred years he says, as long as it takes." (Mike Dorning, "Obama Fires Away At McCain," Chicago Tribune’s "The Swamp" Blog, 2/9/08)

· Obama: "[W]e are bogged down in a war that John McCain now suggests might go on for another 100 years ..." (Sen. Barack Obama, MSNBC Democrat Presidential Candidate Debate, Cleveland, OH, 2/26/08)

· Obama: "[Sen. McCain] says that he is willing to send our troops into another 100 years of war in Iraq ..." (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks On Primary Results, Houston, TX, 2/19/08)

But sometimes Obama gets it right. It would be audacious of him to do it all of the time.

"At The End Of The Exchange Obama Admitted That He Understands McCain Is Talking About The Korean Style Bases And Not A Hot War Like Iraq..." (Sunlen Miller, "Obama Claims Characterization Of McCain's Statement On Iraq Is Fair," ABC News' Political Radar Blog, 3/31/08)

· Question: "But I think that [Sen. McCain] talks about it in the spirit of Germany and Japan..."
Obama: "And we've been in South Korea for 50 years. And he's used that as an example..." (Sen. Barack Obama, Press Conference, 3/31/08)

Stop the lying, Senator Obama.

Whenever I hear the "Yes I can" chant, I can't help hearing Bruno Kirby's voice from "Spinal Tap" talking about Sammy Davis Jr's autobiography:

Yes I can, if Frank Sinatra says I can.

Off topic? Probably. Still, I find it funny that Obama lifted his campaign slogan from the Candy Man.

How long should we have troops in Iraq? If he said McCain favors a permanent troop deployment in Iraq, is that the same?

McCain himself made the remark. Yes, I understood the point he was making and that Clinton and Obama are playing with this for political advantage. How is that different from your "coverage" of the other side? Where was your indignation when Michelle Obama's words were taken out of context for political advantage?

At least McCain is on the ballot, and the rules of polite society tend to keep spouses out of the firing line for the most part.

If McCain wants to take back his comment, fine. But please spare me the LIAR LIAR LIAR charge.

Look, McCain said it and the other side took it and ran with it. That's how the game works.

Just like with the "coverage" of the Michelle Obama comments, and how the McCain people are twisting Obamas words about meeting with Iran. They know what he was saying but they are clinging to a few key words and distorting his message.

This media story is basically attempting to twist the issue further and throw it back on Obama when it should be investigating the facts! LAME!
