Obama's Bill Ayers problem

"Memory is a motherf*cker."

That's the opening line of Bill Ayers' 2001 book, Fugitive Days about his execrable days as a Weather Underground terrorist. Now a (gasp!) tenured education professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago, he's a campaign issue for Barack Obama.

Ayers, along with his fellow former Weather Underground terrorist wife, Bernardine Dohrn, are among the two most despicable people in living in America. And Obama served on a board with him. That will play well in rural Ohio--for John McCain.

While the Arizona senator was being tortured by his North Vietnamese captors, Ayers was openly cheering for a Communist victory over our troops.

In 1969, four years before McCain was set free by the NVA, Ayers and the Weather Underground brought the terroristic "Days of Rage" to Chicago.

Three years before McCain's release from captivity, future education professor Ayers exclaimed, "Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at."

One year before McCain achieved freedom, Ayers participated in a bombing of the Pentaton. Of that day, Ayers wrote:
Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon.

The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the bastards were finally going to get what was coming to them.
If there isn't a viral video out there about all of this, it's only because someone is making it now.

Jump ahead to 2000...In addition to his professoship, Ayers is The Woods Fund board chairman, and a young state senator, who like Ayers is living in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, is a fellow board member--that person of course is Barack Obama. Why any organization would have Ayers serving on their board (he's not chairman any more, but Ayers is still on The Woods Fund board), is astonishing to me and any other person with common sense. And who'd want to serve with him? That year, Ayers and Obama (who should've abstained) voted to invest $1 million in Woods Fund money into a firm run by a former boss of the then-state senator, Allison Davis. In a different business venture, Davis partnered with Tony Rezko.

In 2001, Ayers gave a small donation to Obama's campaign fund, $200.

That same year, ironically in comments published on September 11, 2001, Ayers had this to say about his bombing past, "I don't regret setting bombs, I feel we didn't do enough."

Later on that tragic day, John McCain tells the world on CNN that the attacks the day were "an act of war." That evening, members of Congress sing "God Bless America" on the steps of the US Capitol.

The next day, McCain wrote:
We will prevail. We will prevail because the foundations of our greatness cannot be vanquished. Our respect for Man's God-given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness assures us of victory even as it has made us a target for the unjust enemies of freedom who have mistaken hate and depravity for power. The losses we have suffered are grave, and will never be forgotten. But we should take pride and unyielding resolve from the knowledge that we were attacked because we are good.
It'll be a real motherf*cker of a YouTube video.

According to Ayers' blog, he'll taking part in the finals of the Louder Than a Bomb Youth Poetry Slam in Chicago on March 9.

Well, he is an expert on bombs.

Who cares? It's quite a leap of logic to assume that Braack Obama agrees with William Ayers or condones what he did. That is utterly and conmpletely stupid.

Obama was 9 years old when Ayers was in the Weather Underground. It is likely that Obama did't even realize the connection in the 90's and early years of this decade when he crossed paths with Ayers -- who was and still is a professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

How aout trying to win an election, for once, on ideas and the truth rather than being complete assholes? You might actually feel better about yourself afterward. Even if you lose.

Well larded bank accounts act like air-fresheners for these hypocrites and make liitle diiference to the very institutions they purport to oppose.

Obama and I are the same age. I didn't know who Ayers was when I was nine either, but I certainly knew about the cockroach and his wife Dohrn at age 19, 29, and 39.

Read "Audacity of Hope." Obama's a '60s worhipper. He must've known all about Ayers.

The Weather Underground even came up in course material in one of my high school classes.

While I was reading this ridiculous post, I couldn't help but replace Obama with Bush, McCain with Kerry, and 2008 with 2004.

But I'm sure the poster of this tripe was just as upset at the attacks on John Kerry in 04 by the likes of Bush and his cronies, most of which ducked the draft and thereby made a mockery of the soldiers in Vietnam.

Mr. Ruberry, do you REALLY think this is a good topic for a viral video? For a meme to be effective, it also has to be catchy and these connections you are trying to draw are not at all substantial or even deliciously intriguing. I really don't see this having any sort of impact in rural Ohio, but I would like to encourage you and your blogging friends to continue down this path. Keep wasting your time with these remote connections that noone will get, it ties you up and makes you an impotent advocate for McCain's already doomed presidential bid.

  9. Hmmm...I see to have struck a nerve. Let me repeat, Ayers is an unrentant former terrorist...

Obama should repudiate him, without reservations.

Here's a couple of more Omama-Ayers tie ins...

In November 1997, Ayers and Obama participated in a panel at the University of Chicago entitled Should a child ever be called a "super predator?" to debate "the merits of the juvenile justice system".

In April 2002, Ayers, Dohrn, and Obama, then an Illinois state senator, participated together at a conference
entitled "Intellectuals: Who Needs Them?" sponsored by The Center for Public Intellectuals and the University of Illinois-Chicago. Ayers and Obama were two of the six members of the "Intellectuals in Times of Crisis" panel.

    From SadlyNo today:
Obama and Ayers were on the Woods Fund board between 1999 and 2002. Other notable terrorist-sympathizers that have served on the Board of the Woods Fund include senior officers from UBS, BP and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, as well as the President of McCormack Theological Seminary, all of whom I guess must now renounce all participation in politics, apologize for their lapses of judgment, and just go into hiding forever.

As I recall, George Bush gave the bin Ladens a special pass to fly back to Saudi Arabia two days after 9/11 even though everyone else was grounded and even though the intelligence service had some hard questions they never got to ask.

A much better known moronic blogger Instapundit tries the same crap all the time. "X is somehow related to Y and said/did something bad" and "Y should state that X is unequivocally bad". It doesn't matter that he only does this for Democrats or liberals, its just pathetic line of reasoning and shows the intellectual shallowness of the remaining floaters in the conservative commode. Bloggers on the other side don't have to sink to that level because it's a far easier and target rich environment on the right.
John ruberry at least gets a few more readers when he posts gems like these. I've attended conferences with thousands of participants, do I need to make sure all of them are "pure" before I run for office, or are fools like John going to be asking me to repudiate some attendee I'm unaware of?

This coming from the end of the spectrum that thought John Kerry, who served in Viet Nam for only 3 months, garnered those 3 purple hearts with 0 days in the hospital.

I was a democrat until I saw that the DNC floated that turd up for the nod.

Maybe if Kerry would EVER sign off on SF180, we could get to the bottom of it all and prove the Swifties as frauds.

What's that? Kerry, even though he promised to release his records on Meet the Press never did?

    Odd that.

Then again, judgment is not a strong point for the left.

    Case in point: Jimmy Carter.

Another thing which isn't part of the leftie mantra, might I add, is decency.

Moron, asshole, et al. Way to represent yourselves. Dissent can't occur on the left unless dipped in vitriol and some sense of conspiracy.

I'll see your Bush/Bin Laden connection and raise you an Albreight/Kil il Sung.

Oh, wait. That doesn't work since maybe Bush was trying to get the bin ladens out of America, safely, while Maddie was giving the Norks autographed Michael Jordan basketballs and nuclear technology - for reasons of peace.

    So, how 'bout Clinton-Gore/Chinese government?

Nope - that won't fly either since China reaped a huge windfall in military technology via their "donations" to Clinton's campaigns.

I will, however, give you the whole Contra deal.

Then we hear that Obama has been endorsed by the Black Panther party and until recently kept their endorsement on his website. The worst of all is the Bill Ayers Obama's association with Ayers and Dohrn.
Obama aspires to be Commander in Chief in a time of war. Wether you support the war or not is besides the point. Americans in uniform are dying and a future president covets and accepts the endorsement of radical terrorists, who bombed the pentagon.
Obama tell me:why are all these radicals supporting you? What do they know about you that we don't? Well we are beginning to find out are'nt we-at some level you must share similar views. Spread the word. Insist that the media report this more forcefully.

Why is it that moral character does not matter in Democrat Party politics? Several posts here have attempted to minimize the Obama/Ayres connection. Ayres is an admitted terrorist. I would not be in the same room with a terrorist, let alone do business with one. No more than I would associate, even minimally, with a rapist or drug dealer. A criminal is a criminal. Period. What puzzles me is that Americans thinks that we can ONLY communicate with people of like mind. And that only certain people should EVER be afforded FORGIVENESS. How are we EVER going to make this world a better place for our children and grandchildren IF we only talk to people we agree with? There is IRAN/CUBA/PAKISTAN just to name a few countries that will probably drop a bomb on us and kill us all with our arrogant thinking?

Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground did bomb the US Capitol, the Pentagon, NYC police station, and a lot of other places. One of their bombs accidentally went off in a NYC (Greenwich Village) apartment and it killed people, Bill Ayers' then girlfriend died in the blast.

Then Bill Ayers went undercover with Bernadine Dorhn, and years later they resurfaced and the case was BOTCHED and they were set free. Which is AWFUL. They'd still be in prison!!

Barack Obama has been to Bill Ayers home more than once. Bill Ayers was a fundraiser for Obama. Before we condemn Obama on this one, let's see what he has to say on the subject. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a supporter of his, just trying to be fair. He has shown some bad judgement in the past with his associations. This appears to be another one.

Bad judgement alone may be enough of a reason not to vote for the man. However, does he support terrorism? I tend to doubt it.

John McCain was not only a tortured vet, but a senator that put forth a bill to not torture enemy combatants. This is something Obama has not done. To my knowledge he has zero legislative experience. He has neither written nor co-written any bill in three years as a senator.

I have more trouble with him not doing his legislative job than who he associates himself with.

People say "he inspires". It takes a bit more to be commander in chief than inspiration. Work would be nice. He has one of the largest none voting records in the senate.

I remember the Weathermen well. They did nothing constructive, but a whole lot of destructive things.

Mr. Obama, please, clarify your position on your association with these people.

  61. To anyone that dislikes Obama because Ayres and Wright are terrorists / racists, go read some of Martin Luther King's early speeches. He made many, many comments that would considered far more controversial than anything Wright said, and I'm pretty sure MLK is one of the most revered (and rightly so) figures in American history.

Oh yeah, and he was on the FBI watch list for domestic terrorism when he died.

Thanks for pointing to the 9/11 NYT article: Did you see the part where it says:

"Mr. Ayers, who in 1970 WAS SAID TO have summed up the Weatherman philosophy as: ''Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at,'' is today distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. And he says he doesn't actually remember suggesting that rich people be killed or that people kill their parents, but ''it's been quoted so many times I'm beginning to think I did,'' he said. ''It was a joke about the distribution of wealth.''

Compare to your version: "Three years before McCain's release from captivity, future education professor Ayers EXCLAIMED, "Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at."

    How convenient.

The Ayers connection is no big deal to some here. Really? Let's take Obama out and replace him with McCain, take Ayers out and replace him with Eric Rudolph (the abortion clinic bomber). Same degree of connections, just to make it fair. Now, do you really think the press--and the public--would slough it off as no big deal? McCain having political and social contact with Rudolph, going to his house for strategy planning or whatnot? Serving with him on a board? Oh, wait--Rudolph just "lives in my neighborhood", I didn't know him when he went about killing abortionists with bombs. It's not my doing...etc. Sure, that'll fly. The press would have his balls in a boiling pot, an you all know it. The Ayers problem is BIG, and everyone should know it.

Since nonprofit board members have to be elected and reelected by other board members, did Obama vote to have Ayers on the Woods’ board knowing Ayers’ terrorist background and his unrepentant stance on his terrorist background? And since Obama was on the board before Ayers and knew Ayers previously, was it Obama who nominated or recommended Ayres for the board?

While Ayers may not have directly killed anyone, he says he was involved in bombings. Thus, he likely knew of and helped with the bomb making or at least probably conspired with the bomb makers at the townhouse in NY that blew up killing three people, including his girlfriend. Wouldn’t that make him criminally libel for manslaughter or murder? Is there any statue of limitations on this kind of crime?

There maybe an interesting connection at the time of 9/11. Obama’s guru, the Reverend Wright, blames America. Obama’s terrorist friend, Ayers, says his bombs weren’t big enough, implying he felt outdone by Osama. Obama intentionally chooses not to ware an American flag lapel pin, which at the time was meant to show support and respect for America under attack and the thousands murdered on 9/11.

Yes, it’s true. Obama would be a different kind of American President.

It's not that Obama agrees with Ayres (or not). The issue is, what is a potential President of the United States having anything to do with Ayres - an unapologetic terrorist. Wasn't Obama repulsed enough by this terrorist to stay away from him? This seems to be a pattern with Obama - Rezko, Ayres, Rev. Wright. This strikes at the heart of the character and beliefs of the candidate himself.

The use of name calling and race-bating are the first admissions of any inferior intellect's vain attempt at expressing itself as a worthy contributor to the market place of "progressive thought". If Obama is half as intelligent as he is made out to be, he surely knows who Bill Ayers is and knows that he is completely unrepentent about the acts of terrorism he was a part of and has even said that he wouldn't rule out doing it again. Indeed birds of a feather do flock together. This guy bombed his own country, killed people, went unpunished, and does not feel the least bit bad about it. This is an issue worth looking into--just like Bush dodging the draft, Clinton dodging the draft, Swiftboat vererans etc.--these things tell of a person's character and intentions. We need to know who our potential leaders are. It's not about right and left, it's about right and wrong.

What's more, why is it that those who don't agree with the post must resort to childish name-calling? Sounds like you don't have an intelligent response when you do that.

One of the biggest problems we have in this country right now is that the R's and the D's have us so divided we can't even see that most of us (crazies on both sides excluded) want the same things--we just disagree on how to get there, and we tear each other apart so we can be right and "win" our argument.

I didn't read all these posts, because there are simply too many, and the swearing is really not necessary. The fact is that Barack Obama claimed that Bill Ayers was just a guy in his neighborhood and that he didn't really know him. They were both on the board of the Woods Fund for about 4 years. They've been on several panel discussions and a conference together. And as Obama may not agree with Ayers' actions in the past (Who would?), he certainly has had contact with him more recently. He probably doesn't know him on a personal level. But instead of saying that he doesn't know the guy, he should have said that he has had to work with him, that he doesn't know him on a personal level, and he would never condone such attacks on the USA. John Ruberry is right... Obama should have just repudiated him. But he didn't. He lied.

For the most part, I've always considered myself a Republican. But I lean to the left on many issues. Obama is an inexperienced junior Senator in Illinois, and not a very good one at that. He voted 'Present', instead of Yes or No, on way too many votes in the Illinois Senate. Some will argue that this is a political way of voting 'No' without actually doing it. To me that shows that he can't make decisions... something a President must do.

What I fear is that by giving Obama the nomination, a lot of the Hillary Clinton supporters are going to vote for McCain instead, and we'll end up with another Republican President.

It's happening... Obama is already slipping in the polls.

Oh, and by the way... we'll probably never leave Iraq. After all, we never left Germany following WWII.

(Could someone enlighten me as to why this man is not in jail.) Do the Obamaniacs really believe that Obama didn't attend Rev Wrights' sermons where he preached his radical beliefs? Come on. 95. Obama has a credibility problem with respect to Bill Ayers. In Dreams of My Father, Obama readily admits to a career where he sought out the company of radicals, for political and career based reasons. At Occidental College, Obama selected his friends "carefully," among the "politically aware blacks," "Marxist Professors," "Structural Feminists," "Chicanos," and "punk rock performance poets." Obama also sought out Rev. Wright in part for his grounding in liberation theology. Much has been conjectured about Obama's belief system (Christian v. Muslim) but it is clear that he believes in liberation theology and revolution, and since his beliefs are political and not spiritual, the form of worship isn't important, except for his embrace of the christian brand name. Obama was ultimately smart enough to make a buck off ideology, whether it be representing the interests of Tony Rezko, engaging in political organizing, or not for profit sector partnerships involving himself, Ayers, and others which inurred to their mutual benefit. Now, that Obama needs to appeal to the poltical mainstream, the people who created him are now inconvenient.

The fact is that the war in Vietnam was both illegal and immoral, as well as started by a (DEMOCRATIC led) government fiction - the gulf of Tonkin incident. Because the war was never officially declared (the gulf of Tonkin resolution authorized "aid" to south veitnam, but did not meet constitutional muster), the folks behind it - LBJ and later Nixon - were in violation of the U.S. constitution. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Tonkin_Incident]

John Locke - whom many Republicans claim to revere - stated that when government breaches the social contract, the people have both the right and the responsibility to resist, including by force of arms.

In the context of an illegal war (not to mention the tyranny of J Edgar Hoover ), armed action to resist the state is justified under classical theories such as Locke's. And it must be said that Ayers and company were reasonably good at not hurting civilians in their endeavor. (Nor were they alone. It is estimated that over 10,000 attack were made on government facilities by U.S. citizens between 1968 and 1970.)

Unfortunately, Mr. Ayers and the Weather Underground subscribed to a misguided and offensive marxist-derived ideology.

Ultimately, Mr. Ayer's ideas were much more misguided than his actions. Terrorist is not the correct label.

Obama knew very well who Ayers was when he went to his house and worked with him, plain and simple. Obama will rub elbows with whoever he needs to in order to gain "power". Another thing, how unconscionable is it for a party (democrats) to abuse and humiliate the homeless and uneducated people in Ohio, pick them up, smile tell them WHO to vote for, Obama of course,(yes, it is on camera, watch Fox). THAT IS DESPERATE AND HATEFUL BEHAVIOR, EVEN FOR A CAMPAIGN.

FACT: Obama's character and judgment is scary! Currently McCain must win all of the remaining battleground states in order to get the election. Numerous credible news sources have validly shown the connection presented by the right between Ayers and Obama as not credible. As far as I am concerned, this attack is to further consolidate their base. It says something about a campaign when they have to get people on board who should already be on board, with less than a month in the election. In addition, no American, Democrat or Republican, would elect a man president if they thought he was sympathetic to terrorism. The current nationalist-conservative movement in America is extremely dangerous. Calling the left cockroaches, or refering to Obama as "that one," are the same tactics facists have used time and time again. Sarah Palin sent those wackos a videotaped message only three months ago to praise their work. Where is the right-wing outrage? I'll tell you, there is none.

Sarah Palin is married to a terrorist and she supports his organization's activities. Obama served on an education committee with a guy that advocated terrorism 40 years ago and is now a respected author and college professor.

Obama was 8 years old when Ayers was active. Sarah Palin is still married to Todd Palin. Who has the strongest relationship to terrorism?

So... they say Obama was associated with that Ayers guy who protested the war in Vietnam. Well guess what. MOST OF THE COUNTRY knew that war was wrong, that we had no business there, that we were losing THOUSANDS of America's best for naught and MOST of the country was AGAINST the war, but FOR the troops. I don't agree with Ayers. They did to JUST enough to help get us out of the killing fields of Southeast Asia.
Obama is associated with Ayers, eh?
Guess that seals it for me. I'll be voting early for President Obama next week.

    Facts for consideration:

McCain palled around bigots and segregationists Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond, they served for decades together in the Senate, were committee members together, traveled to events together, fund raised together. They were friends.

Thurmond ran for president on a platform of maintaining segregation.

Thurmond didn't see blacks as full Americans.

Thurmond conducted the longest filibuster in Senate history in opposition to the Civil Rights Act.

Thurmond said, "I want to tell you that there's not enough troops in the Army to force the Southern people to break down segregation and admit the Negro race into our theaters, into our swimming pools, into our homes and into our churches."

Helms held a strong racist streak that articulated his politics and almost all of his political campaigns - they were racialized in the most negative ways.

Helms, in North Carolina, encouraged massive resistance to integration and referred to the University of North Carolina as the “University of Negroes and Communists” suggesting that walls be erected around the UNC campus to prevent enlightened thinking from “infecting” the rest of North Carolina.

Helms spouted, “Crime rates and irresponsibility among Negroes are a fact of life which must be faced.”

Helms said that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a communist dupe and refused, even decades after King’s death, to honor the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

McCain's great-great grandfather William Alexander McCain owned a plantation and 52 slaves in Carroll County, Miss.

Would it be appropriate to insinuate that McCain is a racist, a bigot, a segregationist just because of his decades long association, his decades long service with, his decades long friendship with known racists, bigots, segregationists?

    No.

But that doesn't stop the McCain/Palin ticket, surrogates, and supporters from suggesting that Obama may be a terrorist because of a far more tenuous association with a former radical.

McCain served on an advisory board of a group linked to ultra-right-wing death squads, promotion of pro-Nazi groups, and dissemination of anti-Semitic virulence. Does that make McCain a Nazi loving, Jew hating, friend of murderers?

    http://news.aol.com/article/mccain-l...03746?cid=3272

    No.

But I bet I hear the link between Obama and Ayers exploited by McCain and Palin within minutes of turning on my television today.

Can I create a post linking Sarah and Todd Palin to Nazi groups?

    http://www.stormfront.org/forum/show...zi-519447.html

Sure, but it wouldn't necessarily mean that Sarah and Todd Palin hate Blacks, Jews, Gays and Lesbians, would it?

  117. The Bush family had business dealings with the Bin Laden family before September 11, 2001.

Does that make Bush a terrorist or show that he is un-American or has bad judgement? Perhaps.

Was the committee that Obama and Bill Ayers sat on making bombs and recruiting jihadist? Probably this is the best test of whether or not this allegation warrants attention.

Before you know it November 4th will be here and there will be a Blue Landslide with Obama in the White House, 62 Democrats with a veto proof majority in the Senate and 260/175 (Dems-Reps) in the house. A good day for America.

I personally think everyone arguing and calling each other names is quite ridiculous. As far as I am concerned everyone can have their own opinions. And to sit here and bash each other based on what party we belong to (someone saying republican families are evil, etc) is exactly why our country is struggling. Throwing names around is the most childish thing, and definately not what our country needs.

Responding to not electing Obama because he is black... I have no problem with a black man being president but I do have a problem with Obama, and that is because I have heard no specifics as to how he will CHANGE the country, only the claim. He has a lot of charisma but those are not the characteristics I look for in a president!

Dear Anonymous; Let's share information on Obama's "Change" plans so that you can know what he will offer as President.

    "The Problem
Wages are Stagnant as Prices Rise: While wages remain flat, the costs of basic necessities are increasing. The cost of in-state college tuition has grown 35 percent over the past five years. Health care costs have risen four times faster than wages over the past six years. And the personal savings rate is now the lowest it's been since the Great Depression.

Tax Cuts for Wealthy Instead of Middle Class: The Bush tax cuts give those who earn over $1 million dollars a tax cut nearly 160 times greater than that received by middle-income Americans. At the same time, this administration has refused to tackle health care, education and housing in a manner that benefits the middle class.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden's Plan
    Jumpstart the Economy
Enact a Windfall Profits Tax to Provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families:Barack Obama and Joe Biden will enact a windfall profits tax on excessive oil company profits to give American families an immediate $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help families pay rising bills. This relief would be a down payment on the Obama-Biden long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief.
Provide $50 billion to Jumpstart the Economy and Prevent 1 Million Americans from Losing Their Jobs: This relief would include a $25 billion State Growth Fund to prevent state and local cuts in health, education, housing, and heating assistance or counterproductive increases in property taxes, tolls or fees. The Obama-Biden relief plan will also include $25 billion in a Jobs and Growth Fund to prevent cutbacks in road and bridge maintenance and fund school repair - all to save more than 1 million jobs in danger of being cut.
Provide Middle Class Americans Tax Relief
Obama and Biden will cut income taxes by $1,000 for working families to offset the payroll tax they pay.

Provide a Tax Cut for Working Families: Obama and Biden will restore fairness to the tax code and provide 150 million workers the tax relief they need. Obama and Biden will create a new "Making Work Pay" tax credit of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family. The "Making Work Pay" tax credit will completely eliminate income taxes for 10 million Americans.
Eliminate Income Taxes for Seniors Making Less than $50,000: Barack Obama will eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year. This proposal will eliminate income taxes for 7 million seniors and provide these seniors with an average savings of $1,400 each year. Under the Obama-Biden plan, 27 million American seniors will also not need to file an income tax return.
Simplify Tax Filings for Middle Class Americans: Obama and Biden will dramatically simplify tax filings so that millions of Americans will be able to do their taxes in less than five minutes. Obama and Biden will ensure that the IRS uses the information it already gets from banks and employers to give taxpayers the option of pre-filled tax forms to verify, sign and return. Experts estimate that the Obama-Biden proposal will save Americans up to 200 million total hours of work and aggravation and up to $2 billion in tax preparer fees.
    Trade
Obama and Biden believe that trade with foreign nations should strengthen the American economy and create more American jobs. He will stand firm against agreements that undermine our economic security.

Fight for Fair Trade: Obama and Biden will fight for a trade policy that opens up foreign markets to support good American jobs. They will use trade agreements to spread good labor and environmental standards around the world and stand firm against agreements like the Central American Free Trade Agreement that fail to live up to those important benchmarks. Obama and Biden will also pressure the World Trade Organization to enforce trade agreements and stop countries from continuing unfair government subsidies to foreign exporters and nontariff barriers on U.S. exports.
Amend the North American Free Trade Agreement: Obama and Biden believe that NAFTA and its potential were oversold to the American people. They will work with the leaders of Canada and Mexico to fix NAFTA so that it works for American workers.
Improve Transition Assistance: To help all workers adapt to a rapidly changing economy, Obama and Biden will update the existing system of Trade Adjustment Assistance by extending it to service industries, creating flexible education accounts to help workers retrain, and providing retraining assistance for workers in sectors of the economy vulnerable to dislocation before they lose their jobs.
End Tax Breaks for Companies that Send Jobs Overseas: Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that companies should not get billions of dollars in tax deductions for moving their operations overseas. Obama and Biden will also fight to ensure that public contracts are awarded to companies that are committed to American workers.
Reward Companies that Support American Workers: Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 with Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) to reward companies that create good jobs with good benefits for American workers. The legislation would provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America if it has ever been in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military.
Invest in the Manufacturing Sector and Create 5 Million New Green Jobs
Invest in our Next Generation Innovators and Job Creators: Obama and Biden will create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund to identify and invest in the most compelling advanced manufacturing strategies. The Fund will have a peer-review selection and award process based on the Michigan 21st Century Jobs Fund, a state-level initiative that has awarded over $125 million to Michigan businesses with the most innovative proposals to create new products and new jobs in the state.
Double Funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership: The Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) works with manufacturers across the country to improve efficiency, implement new technology and strengthen company growth. This highly-successful program has engaged in more than 350,000 projects across the country and in 2006 alone, helped create and protect over 50,000 jobs. But despite this success, funding for MEP has been slashed by the Bush administration. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will double funding for the MEP so its training centers can continue to bolster the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturers.
Invest In A Clean Energy Economy And Create 5 Million New Green Jobs: Obama and Biden will invest $150 billion over 10 years to advance the next generation of biofuels and fuel infrastructure, accelerate the commercialization of plug-in hybrids, promote development of commercial scale renewable energy, invest in low emissions coal plants, and begin transition to a new digital electricity grid. The plan will also invest in America's highly-skilled manufacturing workforce and manufacturing centers to ensure that American workers have the skills and tools they need to pioneer the first wave of green technologies that will be in high demand throughout the world.
Create New Job Training Programs for Clean Technologies: The Obama-Biden plan will increase funding for federal workforce training programs and direct these programs to incorporate green technologies training, such as advanced manufacturing and weatherization training, into their efforts to help Americans find and retain stable, high-paying jobs. Obama and Biden will also create an energy-focused youth jobs program to invest in disconnected and disadvantaged youth.
Boost the Renewable Energy Sector and Create New Jobs: The Obama-Biden plan will create new federal policies, and expand existing ones, that have been proven to create new American jobs. Obama and Biden will create a federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) that will require 25 percent of American electricity be derived from renewable sources by 2025, which has the potential to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs on its own. Obama and Biden will also extend the Production Tax Credit, a credit used successfully by American farmers and investors to increase renewable energy production and create new local jobs.
New Jobs Through National Infrastructure Investment
Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that it is critically important for the United States to rebuild its national transportation infrastructure – its highways, bridges, roads, ports, air, and train systems – to strengthen user safety, bolster our long-term competitiveness and ensure our economy continues to grow.

Create a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will address the infrastructure challenge by creating a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank to expand and enhance, not supplant, existing federal transportation investments. This independent entity will be directed to invest in our nation’s most challenging transportation infrastructure needs. The Bank will receive an infusion of federal money, $60 billion over 10 years, to provide financing to transportation infrastructure projects across the nation. These projects will create up to two million new direct and indirect jobs and stimulate approximately $35 billion per year in new economic activity.
    Technology, Innovation and Creating Jobs
Barack Obama and Joe Biden will increase federal support for research, technology and innovation for companies and universities so that American families can lead the world in creating new advanced jobs and products.

Invest in the Sciences: Barack Obama and Joe Biden support doubling federal funding for basic research and changing the posture of our federal government from being one of the most anti-science administrations in American history to one that embraces science and technology. This will foster home-grown innovation, help ensure the competitiveness of US technology-based businesses, and ensure that 21st century jobs can and will grow in America.
Make the Research and Development Tax Credit Permanent: Barack Obama and Joe Biden want investments in a skilled research and development workforce and technology infrastructure to be supported here in America so that American workers and communities will benefit. Obama and Biden want to make the Research and Development tax credit permanent so that firms can rely on it when making decisions to invest in domestic R&D over multi-year timeframes.
Deploy Next-Generation Broadband: Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe we can get broadband to every community in America through a combination of reform of the Universal Service Fund, better use of the nation's wireless spectrum, promotion of next-generation facilities, technologies and applications, and new tax and loan incentives.
    Support Small Business
Provide Tax Relief for Small Businesses and Start Up Companies: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will eliminate all capital gains taxes on start-up and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation. Obama and Biden will also support small business owners by providing a $500 “Making Work Pay” tax credit to almost every worker in America. Self-employed small business owners pay both the employee and the employer side of the payroll tax, and this measure will reduce the burdens of this double taxation.
Create a National Network of Public-Private Business Incubators: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will support entrepreneurship and spur job growth by creating a national network of public-private business incubators. Business incubators facilitate the critical work of entrepreneurs in creating start-up companies. Obama and Biden will invest $250 million per year to increase the number and size of incubators in disadvantaged communities throughout the country.
    Labor
Obama and Biden will strengthen the ability of workers to organize unions. He will fight for passage of the Employee Free Choice Act. Obama and Biden will ensure that his labor appointees support workers' rights and will work to ban the permanent replacement of striking workers. Obama and Biden will also increase the minimum wage and index it to inflation to ensure it rises every year.

Ensure Freedom to Unionize: Obama and Biden believe that workers should have the freedom to choose whether to join a union without harassment or intimidation from their employers. Obama cosponsored and is strong advocate for the Employee Free Choice Act, a bipartisan effort to assure that workers can exercise their right to organize. He will continue to fight for EFCA's passage and sign it into law.
Fight Attacks on Workers' Right to Organize: Obama has fought the Bush National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) efforts to strip workers of their right to organize. He is a cosponsor of legislation to overturn the NLRB's "Kentucky River" decisions classifying hundreds of thousands of nurses, construction, and professional workers as "supervisors" who are not protected by federal labor laws.
Protect Striking Workers: Obama and Biden support the right of workers to bargain collectively and strike if necessary. They will work to ban the permanent replacement of striking workers, so workers can stand up for themselves without worrying about losing their livelihoods.
Raise the Minimum Wage: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will raise the minimum wage, index it to inflation and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit to make sure that full-time workers earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs.
Protect Homeownership and Crack Down on Mortgage Fraud
Obama and Biden will crack down on fraudulent brokers and lenders. They will also make sure homebuyers have honest and complete information about their mortgage options, and they will give a tax credit to all middle-class homeowners.

Create a Universal Mortgage Credit: Obama and Biden will create a 10 percent universal mortgage credit to provide homeowners who do not itemize tax relief. This credit will provide an average of $500 to 10 million homeowners, the majority of whom earn less than $50,000 per year.
Ensure More Accountability in the Subprime Mortgage Industry: Obama has been closely monitoring the subprime mortgage situation for years, and introduced comprehensive legislation over a year ago to fight mortgage fraud and protect consumers against abusive lending practices. Obama's STOP FRAUD Act provides the first federal definition of mortgage fraud, increases funding for federal and state law enforcement programs, creates new criminal penalties for mortgage professionals found guilty of fraud, and requires industry insiders to report suspicious activity.
Mandate Accurate Loan Disclosure: Obama and Biden will create a Homeowner Obligation Made Explicit (HOME) score, which will provide potential borrowers with a simplified, standardized borrower metric (similar to APR) for home mortgages. The HOME score will allow individuals to easily compare various mortgage products and understand the full cost of the loan.
Close Bankruptcy Loophole for Mortgage Companies: Obama and Biden will work to eliminate the provision that prevents bankruptcy courts from modifying an individual's mortgage payments. They believe that the subprime mortgage industry, which has engaged in dangerous and sometimes unscrupulous business practices, should not be shielded by outdated federal law.
    Address Predatory Credit Card Practices
Obama and Biden will establish a five-star rating system so that every consumer knows the risk involved in every credit card. They also will establish a Credit Card Bill of Rights to stop credit card companies from exploiting consumers with unfair practices.

Create a Credit Card Rating System to Improve Disclosure: Obama and Biden will create a credit card rating system, modeled on five-star systems used for other consumer products, to provide consumers an easily identifiable ranking of credit cards, based on the card's features. Credit card companies will be required to display the rating on all application and contract materials, enabling consumers to quickly understand all of the major provisions of a credit card without having to rely exclusively on fine print in lengthy documents.
Establish a Credit Card Bill of Rights to Protect Consumers: Obama and Biden will create a Credit Card Bill of Rights to protect consumers. The Obama-Biden plan will:
    Ban Unilateral Changes
Apply Interest Rate Increases Only to Future Debt
    Prohibit Interest on Fees
    Prohibit "Universal Defaults"
Require Prompt and Fair Crediting of Cardholder Payments
    Reform Bankruptcy Laws
Obama and Biden will reform our bankruptcy laws to protect working people, ban executive bonuses for bankrupt companies, and require disclosure of all pension investments.

Cap Outlandish Interest Rates on Payday Loans and Improve Disclosure: Obama and Biden will extend a 36 percent interest cap to all Americans. They will require lenders to provide clear and simplified information about loan fees, payments and penalties, which is why they'll require lenders to provide this information during the application process.
Encourage Responsible Lending Institutions to Make Small Consumer Loans: Obama and Biden will encourage banks, credit unions and Community Development Financial Institutions to provide affordable short-term and small-dollar loans and to drive unscrupulous lenders out of business.
Reform Bankruptcy Laws to Protect Families Facing a Medical Crisis: Obama and Biden will create an exemption in bankruptcy law for individuals who can prove they filed for bankruptcy because of medical expenses. This exemption will create a process that forgives the debt and lets the individuals get back on their feet.
    Work/Family Balance
Obama and Biden will double funding for after-school programs, expand the Family Medical Leave Act, provide low-income families with a refundable tax credit to help with their child-care expenses, and encourage flexible work schedules.

Expand the Family and Medical Leave Act: The FMLA covers only certain employees of employers with 50 or more employees. Obama and Biden will expand it to cover businesses with 25 or more employees. They will expand the FMLA to cover more purposes as well, including allowing workers to take leave for elder care needs; allowing parents up to 24 hours of leave each year to participate in their children's academic activities; and expanding FMLA to cover leave for employees to address domestic violence.
Encourage States to Adopt Paid Leave: As president, Obama will initiate a strategy to encourage all 50 states to adopt paid-leave systems. Obama and Biden will provide a $1.5 billion fund to assist states with start-up costs and to help states offset the costs for employees and employers.
Expand High-Quality Afterschool Opportunities: Obama and Biden will double funding for the main federal support for afterschool programs, the 21st Century Learning Centers program, to serve a million more children. Obama and Biden will include measures to maximize performance and effectiveness across grantees nationwide.
Expand the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit: The Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit provides too little relief to families that struggle to afford child care expenses. Obama and Biden will reform the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit by making it refundable and allowing low-income families to receive up to a 50 percent credit for their child care expenses.
Protect Against Caregiver Discrimination: Workers with family obligations often are discriminated against in the workplace. Obama and Biden will enforce the recently-enacted Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidelines on caregiver discrimination.
Expand Flexible Work Arrangements: Obama and Biden will create a program to inform businesses about the benefits of flexible work schedules; help businesses create flexible work opportunities; and increase federal incentives for telecommuting. Obama and Biden will also make the federal government a model employer in terms of adopting flexible work schedules and permitting employees to request flexible arrangements.

"Not to mention John McCain was on a committee which gave a great deal of money and training to a freedom fighting group in the Afghan war against Russia in the 80's. Do you know who this freedom fighting group John McCain helped support through committee was led by? Osama Bin Laden. "

The U.S. was supposedly aiding Afghanistan against the Communist take over by the USSR -- who were our "enemies" in that decade. It is really no wonder why Osama Bin Laden would turn on the country who let Afghanistan fall right into the Communist hands they were only pretending to protect them from. Not much different from Korea, Vietnam, or even the current world police action taking place in the Middle East. Our allies and enemies change frequently and when aid was given to Bin Laden he was not our enemy. As wrong as the continuous changing of sides is - I thought it important to point out that Bin Laden was not terrorizing the U.S. in the 1980's but asking for assistance in protecting his country from a Communist empire.

The connection of Obama and Ayers is not to say that Obama supports the violent acts used by the Weathermen -- it is to show one of many associations (including those committees they sat on together) that help to distinguish his political philosophy. Ayers is a self-proclaimed communist (with a lower case c) and holds fast to his Marxist ideologies. Using a little logic and common sense, the puzzle can easily be pieced together.

How can you people buy the lies of Junior Senator Barack Hussein Obama?! You fools...I hate how all you stupid liberal, left-wing nutcases question McCain, but you don't question Obama because "it doesn't matter about his past" or "that was a long time." Who cares how long ago it was?! Time does not matter. It's the relationship and the effect it had on him that mattered! Junior Senator Barack Obama has placed himself around dangerous people...The people he puts himself around are questionable and dangerous! If McCain were hanging around a terrorist supporter, then you all would question him, you deceitful hypocrites!

This RIDICULOUS talk of Obama being a terrorist or associated with terrorists is such a waste of time. What will you say when your "terrorist" is endorsed by Colin Powell, a four-star general, on Meet the Press this Sunday? That this decorated war hero has been fooled by the "terrorist" as well?

And now, the Chicago Tribune is endorsing a Democratic nominee for the first time EVAR going back to 1847:

"Then, the Chicago Tribune, a newspaper that has not endorsed a Democrat for president since it was founded in 1847, followed suit. From their editorial:

Many Americans say they're uneasy about Obama. He's pretty new to them.

We can provide some assurance. We have known Obama since he entered politics a dozen years ago. We have watched him, worked with him, argued with him as he rose from an effective state senator to an inspiring U.S. senator to the Democratic Party's nominee for president.

We have tremendous confidence in his intellectual rigor, his moral compass and his ability to make sound, thoughtful, careful decisions. He is ready.

    ...

It may have seemed audacious for Obama to start his campaign in Springfield, invoking Lincoln. We think, given the opportunity to hold this nation's most powerful office, he will prove it wasn't so audacious after all. We are proud to add Barack Obama's name to Lincoln's in the list of people the Tribune has endorsed for president of the United States.

According to Editor & Publisher, Obama now has a 3 to 1 lead over McCain in newspaper endorsements -- 51 newspapers with a total 6,299,363 daily circulation. At least seven of those papers endorsed President Bush in 2004".

Why don't you just give up the terrorist malarkey? People WAY smarter than us sure aren't wasting their time beating this dead horse. You don't have to endorse Obama or even like him, just come up with a PLAUSIBLE reason why he shouldn't be our next President.

    Oh fercrissakes,

Here's your problem if you are a Republican:

"The Republican Party is atomizing, and each faction must participate in Project BLAME. The neocons may want to blame the theocons. The economic conservatives will likely blame the big spenders. The conflagration will be so multi-dimensional we'll need a program to sort out the players. They will need to answer fundamental questions: What does it mean to be a Republican? Do Republicans support laissez-faire or nationalized banking? Do Republicans support a balanced budget or half-trillion-dollar deficits? Do Republicans want a "humble foreign policy" like George W. Bush, or preventive war against countries that pose no threat, like, umm, George W. Bush? Are Republicans the party of limited government or a vast Medicare prescription drug benefit? Are they wary of Big Brother or eager to expand warrantless wiretaps? Do they support Christian values or torture? Are they the party that believes that cutting-edge technology can shoot a missile out of the sky or the party that believes humans and dinosaurs walked the earth simultaneously?"

this Ayers thing is so played out it's ridiculous. How about coming up with some solutions instead of attacking your opponent? Because you have none. Our country is in such a shambles because of Republicans and all you can do is say the other option is too scary? I'm scared out of my wits our entire global financial system is going to fail thanks to Republicans! I'll take my chances on the wealthiest 1% having to pay a little higher taxes so our children can have health care and an education. If President Obama makes Ayers the Secretary of Defense I guess you can point your fingers at me and say I TOLD YOU SO!!

(but only after Secretary Ayers has the Pentagon demolished)

Seiously, how many of you remember a friend (not a best friend) from when you were 9? I'm 23 and I don't have any ties to anybody from when I was 9. Point being, Barack was a KID. That's right. A CHILD. Because you know anybody that was friends with Ted Kaczynski or Jeffery Dahmer as a kid is bound to be a mad bomber or a serial killer by now. Oh and adayas a child I've had past (loose) associations with thieves and addicts. I've even run into them through work nowadays. But that doesn't make me a thief or a junkie does it? Does that mean I condone their lifestyle? Not by a longshot. It's sad. Politicians and their followers try to dig up dirt on somebody and when they find the smallest speck of it, its put under a microscope.
