Brownback endorsing McCain, Robertson endorsing Giuliani

These endorsements I didn't see coming. Kansas Republican Sam Brownback, who recently abandoned his presidential run, will be endorsing fellow senator John McCain's bid for the nation's highest office.

Brownback, the darling of the religious right, wasn't able to expand his following beyond that small but important group of Republican voters.

In a meeting two weeks ago that fueled speculation that Brownback, who is considering a run for governor of the Sunflower State in 2010, would endorse Rudy Giuliani, Brownback, a staunch opponent of abortion, "I'm much more comfortable" with Giuliani, who supports abortion rights.

McCain is pro-life.

Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson, who tapped into the religious right vote in 1988, announced today that he'll be supporting Rudy Giuliani for president. Robertson carries much more baggage than Brownback--if Rudy wins the GOP nomination, look for the former New York City mayor to distance himself from Robertson during the general election campaign.
