From AP:
Doubling foreign aid would help ``ensure that those who live in fear and want today can live with dignity and opportunity tomorrow,'' Obama said. ``A relatively small investment in these fragile states up front can be one of the most effective ways to prevent the terror and strife that is far more costly -- both in lives and treasure -- down the road.''
Of course, the billions of aid we've been sending to Egypt since the 1979 Camp David accords show how beneficial sending money to thug states can be.
Earlier today the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Obama did legal work for his onetime political sponsor, the since indicted Tony Rezko. A wealthy (Well, maybe not anymore) developer and landlord, Rezko owned some slum buildings--including an unheated one in Obama's former state senate district--and Obama did some defense work for Rezko regarding those buildings.
The Sun-Times article was the major news story in Chicago today. However, Obama didn't want to talk about it, as NBC 5 explains:
After a foreign policy address on Monday in Chicago, Obama's security detail altered his route out of the building so as not to face waiting reporters' questions about this latest Rezko controversy.
UPDATE April 24, 10:40 AM: Obama did speak with the Chicago Tribune's political reporter, Rick Pearson about this latest Rezko revelation. In short, he said he wasn't aware of any tenant complaints about the Rezko slum buildings. Free registration is required for the Tribune story
