Easter scrooges organize "Blog Against Theocracy" blogswarm

A little metaphor mixing is never toxic, so this evening it's time to write about Easter scrooges.

A group of bloggers have organized a blogswarm, Blog Against Theocracy, and it concludes this weekend. Hat tip to Mark Draughn at Windypundit.

These people, and I firmly respect the rights of non-believers, are utterly clueless about the facts and a bit insensitive. For starters, America has never been a theocracy, the Bill of Rights took care of that in the 18th century. Some states had official religions, a holdover from colonial times, but the last state to disestablish its official Protestant faith did so in 1850 or so. Insensitive? Yep, this is the end of Holy Week, the most sacred week of the religion with the most followers, and some say, the fastest growing religion, and that of course is Christianity.

Of course there are theocracies in the world, and if these Blog Against Theocracy folks had any intelligence--or guts--they'd hire translators and organize a Farsi (for Iran) and Arabic (for Saudi Arabia) "Blog Against Theocracy." But of course they don't want to end up like poor Theo van Gogh.

But there is plenty of time to get prepared for Ramadan.

Oh, I know not all the blogswarm particpatants are atheists, but the religious ones seem to be of the Unitarian Universalist type.

And here is a message to all of you participating in the Blog Against Theocracy: America is not on the verge of becoming a theocracy.

And I don't want it to become one. Besides, look at what having a state religion did to Denmark, Sweden, and England. Hardly anyone attends mass at these official places of worship, although the Anglican faith is growing in Africa.

Happy Easter all the same.
