Bush throws out first pitch at Reds-Cubs game
President George W. Bush, looking pretty sharp in his red-and-black Cincinnati Reds jacket, through a high pitch to Reds catcher Jason LaRue to kick off the Reds season at Great American Ballpark
I was watching the WGN-TV coverage of the game, and when the president was introduced, I heard a lot of cheers, and no audible boos. The WGN cameras panned the audience and showed plenty of flag-waving fans.
The photo, courtesy of AP, was taken before the first pitch. As I type this, the smiles on the Reds' are gone. Cincinnati is playing the Chicago Cubs, and the first two Cubs batters hit a triple and a double, the third batter drew a walk. Batter number four hit a single.
The fifth batter got on base courtesy of a dropped fly ball by Cincinnati leftfielder Adam Dunn.
A bad start for the Reds.
