We must not give up this property!

Strong city leadership would cut the budget to live within our means. Weak leadership would sell our finite resources to make ends meet for the immediate future, but not solve our long-term budget imbalance.

Speak up before it's too late!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10143237.post-78826199883317405082013-06-23T22:36:43.286-05:002013-06-23T22:36:43.286-05:00The property was never really on the market- the c...The property was never really on the market- the city issued Request For Proposal based on certain criteria to see what possibilities might be out there for this property. The only people who knew it was potentially available for alternaive use were those who follow Evanston politics.

The proposal for property from the developer includes purchasing 2 acres of lake front property. The mansion cost $500,000 to build in 1929- which would be about $6.8million today just for the house, conservatory and coach house.

This in one of the most beautiful locations on the North Shore and should remain in the public domain. What the city needs to do is bring together creative people who care about the mansion, property and lake front and come up with a creative way to turn the property into a place for public use. There is a group which has come together to raise awareness and to stop all talk of selling that property or any Evanston Parks and Lake front properties. Developers can buy other property- the city should not be relinquishing control of our most valuable land to any developer.Marynoreply@blogger.com
