Decline and fall: Chicago drops free jazz concert series

Chicago's Millennium Park
I imagine in the late 1960s Detroit newspapers ran stories similar to this one. A city-sponsored concert series, "Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz," is being cancelled.

From the Chicago Tribune:
Last year, the free six-concert series (which has played on Thursday evenings) was cut back to four, not a surprise to anyone in light of the city’s financial straits.

Jazz will continue to be programmed at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park during the summer. Will the offerings include artists of major stature, commissions of new work and the creative programming of past years?
