On this day in 1876: Jesse James routed in Northfield, Minnesota

On my way home from the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, I attended the Defeat of Jesse James Days in Northfield, Minnesota. It was on this day in 1876 when ordinary people thwarted the James-Younger gang's attempt to rob the First National Bank there.
