Panic in Detroit: Bankruptcy

Detroit has fallen from being the Arsenal of Democracy and the nation's fourth-largest city to bankruptcy.

There are two causes for this collapse--and neither involve the automobile industry.

The disastrous five-term mayoral reign of onetime communist and union organizer Coleman Young brought corruption and Stalinesqe public work projects to the Motor City. Young was the worst mayor in the history of our nation.

The public-sector unions sucked out what was left of Detroit.

Parasites always kill their hosts.

Back to cars: Healthy cities evolve. The Chicago Stockyards closed in 1971. Pittsburgh survived the decline of the domestic steel industry. Charlotte went from being a textile mill town to a major financial center.
