Chicago NATO Friday news dump: Large part of Lake Shore Drive closed for 3 days

"Abandon hope, all ye who enter here."
Much of Chicago's beautiful yet busy Lake Shore Drive will be closed for three days, May 19-21, during the NATO Summit. The final day is a Monday--ensuring a commute from hell for Chicagoans.

The federal and Chicago officials cowardly chose Friday afternoon, a news dump period, to break the bad news to local drivers.

The closed part of the Drive will be 39th Street up to Balbo Drive.

On occasion parts of Chicago's Dan Ryan and Kennedy Expressways will also be shut down, as will the museum campus south of downtown. On May 20 the museums will be closed the entire day.

Has the summit's bogus economic impact statement accounted for the negative impact it will have on South Loop businesses?

And bringing the G8/NATO Summit, and then just hosting NATO, was supposed to be a good thing for Chicago?

On top of these headaches, Occupy Chicago will attempt to 'shut-down' Boeing's corporate headquarters on May 21. The afternoon prior the anti-NATO march will be held.
