Red-tailed hawk eating prey

Unless it's raining, I usually carry my digital camera whenever I run. This afternoon I was able to take this photograph in Morton Grove's Miami Woods just 10 feet from a red-tailed hawk eating a squirrel. Another man who was taking a photograph of this bird of prey informed me that the hawk was a juvenile--which is why it wasn't afraid of us.

Ack! I have seen feather piles, not the feast itself during early morning runs in a local park.

For the hawk, a good day. For the squirrel, not so good.
