George Allen statement on Obama's attack on right-to-work laws

President Obama's long suit used to be his speeches. Now they are an impediment to him. In a press release, Virginia Republican US Senate candidate explains why.

George Allen Statement on President Obama's Attack on Right-to-Work Laws

Henrico, VA –George Allen released the following statement regarding President Obama's attack on Right-to-Work laws, in which the president characterized right-to-work laws as "the right to work for less and less and less." President Obama's comments came at a Labor Day rally in Detroit.

President Obama's attack on Right-to-Work laws on Labor Day is more evidence of the anti-business agenda of his Administration that seeks to grow government intrusiveness into free enterprises. I know as Governor that Virginia's Right-to-Work law is a foundational strength of our state's economy, which gives us a significant competitive advantage in attracting jobs and investment. As a matter of individual liberty, no man or woman should be forced to join a union and pay as much as $700 in yearly dues or fees as a precondition of having a job.

As a former governor, Tim Kaine should recognize the important role that Virginia's tight-to-work law plays in recruiting businesses and fostering an environment to promote job creation. Yet, when it comes time to stand up to this Administration and fight for Virginia's values, Tim Kaine is silent. From his support for the Big Labor union protests in Wisconsin to his justification of the NLRB's baseless lawsuit against Boeing, Tim Kaine has consistently sided with his liberal Washington allies over the best interests of the people of Virginia.

The NLRB has no justifiable reason to impede a private company from hiring employees and operating in a Right-to-Work State. This is an attack by a Washington bureaucracy on the basic freedom of movement for every American and an assault on the economic competitiveness of Virginia and all Right-to-Work States. The federal government should be enacting policies which improve our economic competitiveness, not undermine it.
