Lisa Madigan being recruited by DSCC to run for Senate

Sen. Roland Burris (D-Blagojevich) is considered to be dead meat in 2010, assuming he decides to run for a full Senate term.

Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, and Merchandise Mart CEO Chris Kennedy are among the Democrats also considering throwing their hats in the ring.

Now state Attorney General Lisa Madigan is testing the waters.

Burris is the only African-American in the Senate, and apologists for him, such as Rep. Bobby Rush, were not afraid to use the race card to ensure he was seated during the controversy over his credentials.

Michael Sneed of the Chicago Sun-Times has more on Madigan:

"The governor's race is still my main consideration," Madigan told Sneed. But Madigan’s taking another look at the Senate race after recruitment phone calls from the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee.

"They have told me polls show me doing very well," Madigan said.

Sneed also hears Madigan sent word to the Merchandise Mart's Chris Kennedy that she is being seriously courted by the DSCC as its preferred candidate for the Senate seat once held by President Obama. Kennedy is himself considering a run for the seat.

Hmmm...is the DSCC urging Burris to run? If not, will we be hearing from Bobby Rush?

For some reason I have her pegged as a person who may not want to be in Washington. Should she go to the US Senate? Would it be suicide if she really wants to be a Governor? I wonder if a trip to the Senate is good for her becoming a judge eventually?
